This article about us of sap2000's grid system. Firstly; open the program, choose your unit and click the "new model" button. (Picture 1)

Than click "grid only" button. (Picture 2)

And you will see a window which you can create your grid system. You can create cartesian and cylindrical grid system.
If you want to create a cartesian grid system, choose "Cartesian" option.

Number of Grid Lines:
- X direction: Enter the number of points in the X direction.
- Y direction: Enter the number of points in the Y direction.
- Z direction: Enter the number of points in the Z direction.
Grid Spacing:
- X direction : Enter the distance between the axles in the X direction.
- Y direction : Enter the distance between the axles in the Y direction.
- Z direction : Enter the distance between the axles in the Z direction.(This one can be your story height.)
First Grid Line Location:
You can adjust the coordinates of your axle system from this section.
If you want to create a cylindrical grid system, choose "Cylindrical" option.

Number of Grid Lines:
- Along Radius: Enter the number of axes along the Radius.
- Along Theta: Enter the number of axes along the theta.
- Along Z : Enter the number of axes in the Z direction.
Grid Spacing:
- Along Radius : Enter the distance between the axles along the Radius.
- Along Theta : Enter the degree between the axles along the theta.
- Along Z : Enter the distance between the axles in the Z direction.(This one can be your story height.)
First Grid Line Location:
You can adjust the coordinates of your axle system from this section.
Than click "ok" button and create your grid system.
Finally when you want to do adjustes on your grid system, right click on the window and click "Edit grid data" option and "Modify Show System". (Picture 5-6)
